Tee Corinne

As some of you already know, Tee Corinne has been diagnosed with cancer of the bile ducts which has produced a 5.5 cm tumor in her liver. Treatment options are now being discussed. She has stopped teaching (much to her distress) and is making as much order in her life as time and energy permit. Jean Sirius is staying with her for the duration. Jeanne Simington is handling her business affairs. She is pursuing both traditional and holistic options.

She does have emergency surgery insurance, but her bills are mounting dramatically. Any financial assistance you might be able to offer would be most appreciated. Please send checks made out to:

Tee A. Corinne mail to: POB 278 Wolf Creek, OR 97497

A website and blog have been set up to share information about her condition. http://jeansirius.com/TeeACorinne/tee_update.html

Updates will be posted as we have them.

She wishes to thank you all so very much.

Mary Meriam Outs Wu Tsao!

Sonneteer Extraordinaire Mary Meriam wrote a beautiful poem about Wu Tsao called Wu Tsao's Seclusion! Visit Woman-Stirred and find out more about this early-nineteenth-century Chinese poet.

In her own words, Mary is ready for the warm embrace, the safe sweet nook of academe, a teaching job, a power suit, no more a homeless waif, assigned an office with a door, a knob, a desk, and lots of time to write and think in atmospheres of open minds, in peace. She's had enough "experience" to sink a ship. Her work is published without cease, and she has no connections, nor the cash to buy her way inside. Consider how she loves to learn. Consider how she'll dash to help her students' wobbly work, her tao of bringing glory to the writing schools, her skill in hatching geniuses from fools.

Mary has a BA from Bennington College, and earned her MFA from Columbia. She has many wonderful connections to Vermont, including reading and discussing her work on VPR.

I am trying to talk Mary into applying for a residency at the Vermont Studio Center and she is trying to talk me into a project that involves publishing chapbooks of lesbian poets, two very excellent ideas

Please check out her work on Woman-Stirred and her individual website: Mary Meriam .

You can find Mary Meriam's work in the current issue of Sinister Wisdom, and the current issue of the Harrington Lesbian Fiction Quarterly.

Robertson Calls for the Assassination of Venezuela's Chavez

Another brilliant commentary by Pat Robertson, the Religious-Right's resident pharisee. On his 700 Club TV program, he calls for the US to assassinate President Chavez of Venezuela. Robertson points out that it would be "cheaper" than fighting a war. He also points out that Chavez will spread Communism, and has a "large pool of oil."

I'm sure Jesus is thrilled with this one!

Check out the story on CNN

And don't forget to thank the Lord for the likes of Patty Robertson, a model of christian virtue.

Sign the petition. Join Americans across the land in telling Robertson it's time he learned to love his neighbor.

Cindy Sheehan: Straight Talk & no BS accepted, Mr. Bush

"Contrary to what the main stream media thinks, I did not just fall off a pumpkin truck in Crawford, Tx. on that scorchingly hot day two weeks ago. I have been writing, speaking, testifying in front of Congressional committees, lobbying Congress, and doing interviews for over a year now. I have been pretty well known in the progressive, peace community and I had many, many supporters before I even left California. The people who supported me did so because they know that I uncompromisingly tell the truth about this war. I have stood up and said: "My son died for NOTHING, and George Bush and his evil cabal and their reckless policies killed him. My son was sent to fight in a war that had no basis in reality and was killed for it." I have never said "pretty please" or "thank you." I have never said anything wishy-washy like he uses "Patriotic Rhetoric." I say my son died for LIES. George Bush LIED to us and he knew he was LYING. The Downing Street Memos dated 23 July, 2002 prove that he knew that Saddam didn't have WMD's or any ties to Al Qaeda. I believe that George lied and he knew he was lying. He didn't use patriotic rhetoric. He lied and made us afraid of ghosts that weren't there. Now he is using patriotic rhetoric to keep the U.S. military presence in Iraq: Patriotic rhetoric that is based on greed and nothing else.
Now I am being vilified and dragged through the mud by the righties and so-called "fair and balanced" main stream media who are afraid of the truth and can't face someone who tells it by telling any truth of their own. Now they have to twist, distort, lie, and scrutinize anything I have ever said when they never scrutinize anything that George Bush said or is saying. Instead of asking George or Scotty McClellan if he will meet with me, why aren't they asking the questions they should have been asking all along: "Why are our young people fighting, dying, and killing in Iraq' What is this noble cause you are sending our young people to Iraq for' What do you hope to accomplish there' Why did you tell us there were WMD's and ties to Al Qaeda when you knew there weren't' Why did you lie to us' Why did you lie to the American people' Why did you lie to the world' Why are our nation's children still in harm's way and dying everyday when we all know you lied' Why do you continually say we have to `complete the mission' when you know damn well you have no idea what that mission is and you can change it at will like you change your cowboy shirts'"

Lesbian Herstory Archives

The Lesbian Herstory Archives of New York City, the largest and oldest Lesbian archive in the world, began in 1973 as an outgrowth of a Lesbian consciousness-raising group at the Gay Academic Union. The founders were concerned about the failure of mainstream publishers, libraries, archives, and research institutions to value Lesbian culture. It became obvious that the only way to insure the preservation of Lesbian culture and history was to establish an independent archives governed by Lesbians.

Bookstores

The excellent Galaxy Bookshop in Hardwick, is in the old bank building. How nice to know the vault is filled with children's books instead of rotten old money and forgotten savings bonds.

A seriously excellent Black Sheep Books has titles that regular bookstores don't even consider.

At Bear Pond Books in Montpelier, and in Stowe, one can be lost in the books for a very long time!

And in Rivendell Books, which is also in Montpelier, the choices are amazing.
